RIVERSIDE -- The Riverside County Board of Supervisors signed off today on the release of more than $2.5 million in state grants for the District Attorney's Office, which will use the funds to investigate fraud, provide assistance to crime victims and expand services in underserved communities.

The D.A.'s office was awarded three grants, the largest of which -- $1.48 million -- came from the Department of Insurance's Workers' Compensation Insurance Fraud Program.

The funds, which must be spent in the current fiscal year, will support investigations and prosecutions of individuals suspected of filing fraudulent workers' comp claims.

The California Emergency Management Agency awarded the D.A.'s office two grants -- one in the amount of $932,432, the other totaling $145,525.

for the current fiscal year, was awarded under the Victim Witness Assistance Program. According to county officials, the funds will help cover the costs of a dozen D.A.'s office victim services advocates, whose duties include providing assistance to victims and witnesses during court proceedings, sending notices to families of victims about upcoming court dates, offering crisis intervention and arranging counseling for victims.

The second CEMA grant originated from the agency's Underserved Victim Advocacy & Outreach Program.

"Funding from the program will allow the Division of Victims' Services to continue to provide culturally sensitive services to Hispanic victims and narrow the scope of services to the most violent and serious crimes prosecuted by the District Attorney's Office," according to a D.A.'s office statement.

Did you expect them not to release the money? It took some great political act to accept funds from the state? By the way, the press enterprise reported the hiring of a new public defender and got a comment from him. So, for news you go to the open meeting or read about it from the minutes. If I want to know about the obvious or what Stater Bros is up to, you are the news media of choice.

paying attention: what are you so irritated about? why don't we go to lunch sometime and you can tell me all the reasons you are angry.

Sharon (Malone)Tyson you have written so bfaltieuuly and have honored your cousin Tyson. Life stops when a loved one dies; noone does understand the pain we, the family are in. Their lives continue, they go on happy without a worry in the world, yet we stay stopped in time. We don't want to be there but we are and when others will tell you time heals, Eric it doesnt heal, it just makes it more manageable. The loss you feel for Tyson will alwasy be a part; as time passes you are able to put ithe grief in a place more manageable, but one memory can bring that intense grief back. Always honor your cousin Tyson; alwasy talk about hinm and keep him a part of your life. Others wont know how to do that, you will have to remind them that it is ok to talk about Tyson. Keep his memory alive among all who knew him. He was loved by so many. Your family is in my prayers.
