Two arrests made during Murrieta DUI checkpoint

MURRIETA - One motorist was arrested for drunken driving while another was arrested for possessing cocaine and marijuana during an overnight sobriety checkpoint in Murrieta, police said today.

Police officers started operating the checkpoint Saturday night at Jefferson Avenue and Guava Street. The checkpoint ended early today, the Murrieta Police Department reported.

A total of 420 vehicles passed through the checkpoint but 400 of them were screened. Sixteen drivers were directed to a secondary location at the checkpoint where officers checked on them, according to the department.

One person was cited for driving with a suspended license. Four other motorists were cited for driving without a valid driver's license, the department reported.
