TEMECULA – The Temecula Valley Golden Bears (5-1) opened Southwestern League play with a 9-6 win over the Vista Murrieta Broncos (5-3).

Four players contributed two hits each to the Golden Bears total of 12: Dave Maldonado who had a triple RBI and scored three runs; Kyle Plantier with three RBIs and a stolen base; Bruce Young with one RBI; and Drew Seelman who scored twice.

Pitcher Burke Mitchell is credited with the win and only one earned run. Broncos freshman Jack Moberg gets the loss.

The Broncos’ Joven Afenir went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and two stolen bases; he scored one run. The Broncos had seven hits.

Temecula Valley travels to Chaparral (6-2) March 20. Vista Murrieta hosts Great Oak (6-1).
