Celtic rock and motocross to be featured at Balloon and Wine Festival

TEMECULA – The Young Dubliners will be the musical highlight Sunday, June 2, at the Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival. The Young Dubliners is  a Celtic rock band that has appeared on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, had songs featured in TV shows (Sons Of Anarchy, Human Target) and toured extensively as a headliner and as the opener for such a diverse list of artists as The Flaming Lips, Collective Soul, Jethro Tull, and Johnny Lang.

Although the Young Dubliners sound is most commonly called ‘Celtic Rock,’ the Irish influence is just one of many sounds to the versatile band. Several of the band members have no Irish roots of any kind.

"That was always the idea," Keith Roberts, lead singer for the band explained.

"The sound was always intended to be a hybrid because we all come from different backgrounds. Even though two of us are from Ireland, a lot of the music we listened to growing up wasn’t Irish at all," Roberts added.

Young Dubliners will perform on the Wine Garden Stage Sunday afternoon while the main stage is transformed into a freestyle motocross arena.

Freestyle motocross shows featuring FX Game champions, Metal Mulisha teammates, and an international cast of dare devil riders are set for noon and 3 p.m.

Riders who have performed in the past include: Jimmy Fitzpatrick, Todd Potter, Taka, Ox-Jeff Cargola, Advertisement

Wes Agee, Ryan Hagy, Australian riders Jackson Strong and Robbie Alberg and Cito Vascas from Brazil.

Temecula is home to some of the top and most innovative daredevil riders in the world. Legendary athletes Brian Deegan and Larry Linkogle founded Metal Mulisha in 1999 in the heart of Temecula. Metal Mulisha has grown into one of the biggest and most extreme freestyle motocross teams in the world. Many of the riders are Temecula area residents.

Motor heads will also have a chance to see some of the Metal Mulisha toys, including their Harleys, hot rods and Brian Deegan’s semi truck and trailer. There will also be a So Cal Classic car show including Woodies.

The Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival opens Friday, June 1, at 3 p.m. with the evening balloon glow, wine tasting from more than 20 wineries, and concerts on two stages. Country Friday on the Main Stage features Scotty McCreery and Easton Corbin, with special guest Kanan Road. Saturday rocks with The All-American Rejects, Eve6 and Berlin featuring Terri Nunn. Concerts and the FMX shows are included in admission. Festival hours are Friday 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday hours 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
