Hundreds of people making their way to the Temecula Promenade Mall last weekend were met with the appearance of a 49-foot long, 18,000-pound aircraft that is a U.S. Air Force F-16 jet.

The two-day exhibit commencing on Friday, Aug. 16, allowed the public to explore the latest technology the Air Force uses, including 3-D computer graphics, video, audio, video games, and digital downloads.

The Command Center Alpha exhibit was stationed on the outdoor plaza in front of Edwards Cinemas and gave residents of southwest Riverside County something to talk about.

The City of Temecula is just one of the many stops the F-16 will be landing in as it is traveling the county on a six-month tour. Recent stops have included Nevada, Northern California, Oregon, and Wyoming.

Air Force Sgt. Daniel Sandoval, a Corona-based recruiter, the exhibit is both a recruiting tool and a way of reaching out to the community.

The Air Force regards itself as leaders in air, space and cyberspace, and guests were able to experience the roles the branch plays in military.

A high-tech, interactive studio led guests on a tour with iPads programmed to scan displays and provide video and graphic presentations.

For those looking to make keepsake memories, event-goers were able to take photos in front of a green screen, which then projected them as a pilot in the cockpit with a battle scene in the background.
