Issue 41, Volume 17.
"We knew that was going to be kind of a rookie group out there trying to get some experience and hoping we could compete," Great Oak coach Doug Soles said. "We figured we could have a pretty good showing, and I was pleasantly surprised at how we stepped up."
For the girls, Destiny Collins placed second in a time of 18 minutes, 29 seconds, while Haley Dorris was sixth in 18:48. The Wolfpack is still running without three state-meet competitors Ashley Helbig, Chrissy Calain and Maiya Larsen who are recovering from injuries. The Pack finished five points off the winning team, The Woodlands.
The Great Oak boys placed fourth at the meet. Nick Doan was 10th in 16:25. Robbie Gleason 13th and Oscar Ayala placed 28th. Sophomore Tony Robinson, one of the Wolfpacks better runners was also injured and did not compete.
The CIF SS Polls came out yesterday and Great Oak boys and girls cross country teams are both ranked third in Division 1. This is lowest ranking they have had all year. The girls and boys teams have been No. 1 or No. 2 all season. The CIF-SS poll reflects the injuries that the teams have suffered this season.
The Vista Murrieta boys team also fell in the polls and out of the top ten this week. The Bronco girls are ranked No. 8 and The Pumas are tied for 10th.
Temecula Linfield Christian is tied for 10th in Div. 5.
