Boys Basketball: Nighthawk Classic Round One Update

Murrieta Valley, Great Oak Victorious in Opening Round Play

The 21st annual Nighthawk Classic is underway and Murrieta Valley has come out slugging and looking to recapture their crown. The Nighthawks played host to Linfield Christian and easily defeated the Lions 68-40 in round one of the tournament.

Kevin Padlo led the Nighthawks’ attack scoring 25 points and hauling in eight rebounds. Tyler Bilton added 16 points and Thomas Alexander scored 11 for Murrieta Valley. The Lions started well but it was over after the second quarter. Daniel Morris scored 15 for Linfield.

Great Oak also got off to a strong start in last night’s opening round of play. The Wolfpack blew right past West Valley 58-37 and improved to 3-2 overall with their first win of the tournament.

The Wolfpack took a 31-17 lead at the half and then outscored the Mustangs 21-11 in the third period to run away with the game. Jeremy Smith scored 13 points for the Pack and Torin Webb dropped in 10. Robert Brooks led West Valley with 13 points.

Beaumont lost to La Sierra 62-53 and Norco destroyed Bloomington 70-37 in other Nighthawk Classic action.
