Boys Basketball Update: Temecula Valley and Chaparral off To Fast Starts in Tournament Play


The Golden Bears and Pumas Look To Threaten in the Southwestern League

The Temecula Valley Golden Bears placed second in the Diablo Inferno Basketball Classic in Mission Viejo last weekend. After rolling off three close victories, the Golden Bears fell to Mater Dei in the championship match. Mater Dei is ranked as one of the top three boys basketball teams in California.

Temecula Valley started the tournament with a convincing 57-47 win over Trabuco Hills. They outlasted host Mission Viejo 66-62 in the second round and then edged by Notre Dame 72-70 to earn a shot at the title. Mater Dei showed everyone that their ranking is real as they dominated from the start and handed Temecula Valley itís fisrt loss of the season 70-9-48.

Chaparral went 3-1 in the Beaumont Boys Tournament. The Pumas destroyed Rim of The World 66-22 in the opener. They followed that up with a 65-56 victory over Yucaipa in round two. Palm Desert was next but the Pumas came up short and came up on the wrong end of a 65-56 loss. Chaparral rebounded in the final match of the tournament defeating Indio 65-52.

The Pumas will play Redlands East Valley Friday night at home. Game time is 6pm.
