The Great Oak Girls Cross Country team finished the season by capturing eighth place in the Nike Cross Country Finals Saturday. It was the Wolfpack’s best finish in four times at the Nationals.

In a field that contained 198 runners , Great Oak was led by sophomore Destiny Collins who’s time of 18:13.1 placed her 34th in the 5k event. Senior Haley Dorris came in 74th with a time of 18:47.2, and senior Ashley Helbig was 87th in 18:54.4. Senior Chrissy Calain placed 132nd (19:27.0) and freshman Kiyena Beatty was 145th with a time of 19:41.5.

The Girl’s Cross Country’s National High School Championship was won by Wayzata from Minnesota. They scored 108 points to edge out Fayetteville-Manlius with 120. Davis from Utah was third with 157.

"We got beat by good teams," said Great oak coach Doug Soles. "Every team that beat us was ranked in the top five nationally at some point this season. We can leave with our heads held high knowing that we did the best we could."

Alexa Efraimson from Camus, Washington won the individual match with a time of 16:50. Elise Cranny was second at 16:53.8 and Sarah Baxter from Simi Valley placed third with a time of 16:57.8.

Congratulations to the Wolfpack Girls and an incredible season.
