PERRIS - An investigation was underway today into the hit-and-run death of a woman in Perris.

The victim, whose identity has not been confirmed, was struck about 2:15 a.m. Tuesday on Cajalco Road, just west of Seaton Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a passing motorist spotted the woman lying in the roadway, in the eastbound lane, and called 911.

CHP Officer Travis Monks said it was not immediately clear whether the woman was walking along the shoulder of Cajalco or in traffic lanes when she was hit.

"We don't know if the person who hit her swerved toward her, or she stepped in front of them," Monks said.

The Riverside County Coroner's Office indicated the victim may have been struck by more than one vehicle before she was found. The area is sparsely populated, with vacant lots on all but one corner.

Monks said investigators found vehicle parts scattered nearby that detached from a Subaru, apparently during impact with the victim.

Anyone with information was urged to call the Riverside CHP office at (951) 637-8000.

Her name was Cynthia R......she was 40 years old and NOT a transient as reported. She was my sister-in-law's sister, Aunt to my nieces and a close friend to our family. Investigators do not have any leads so it is very important that you continue to report it in order to find her killer. To often these stories get swept under the rug for other unimportant headlines and are forgotten. We can't let that happen, please keep her name in the paper not only to find justice in her killing but provide closure to our family.

Thank you
