Great Oak, Murrieta Valley Cruise into the Semifinals

The Wolfpack and Nighthawks won convincing victories Wednesday as they advanced into the semifinal round of the 21st annual Nighthawk Classic Boys Basketball tournament.

Temescal Canyon battled the Wolfpack early in the game staying close as they trailed 29-25 at the half. Great Oak put on the pressure and exploded in the second half and blew right by a stunned Temescal Canyon to smash the Titans 70-46.

Jeremy Smith scored 17 points and Latrelle Franklin had 15 points to lead Great Oak. Brandon Presley also scored 10 points for the Wolfpack.

Luke Timm had eight points and nine rebounds for the Titans. Jay Merriweather had nine points and Tim Fazande had 10 rebounds for Temescal Canyon.

The Murrieta Valley Nighthawks won 74-46 over Lakeside. Senior Jordan Williams scored 20 points and hauled in 13 rebounds for the Nighthawks. Kevin Padlo scored 16 points with five assists. Tyler Bilton dropped in 12 points, eight in the first quarter.

Junior Justin Hall had 15 points and freshman Jalen Moore had 14 points for the Lancers.

Lake Elsinore also cruised to victory Wednesday. They crushed Beaumont 79-55 behind Junior Preston Beverly’s 26 points and seven rebound effort. Senior Rey Solorzano added 11 points, seven assists and nine rebounds for the Tigers. Sophomore Michael Taylor also scored 18 points and had five rebounds for Elsinore.

Beaumont was led by Darnell Eaves who scored 15 points and Sammy Roberts who had 13. Jeremy Long added nine for the Cougars.

Elsinore will now face Great Oak in the semifinals on Friday at 6pm. The Nighthawks

play Norco at 7:30pm. All games are at Murrieta Valley.
