Bikes are equals, too

Friday, December 13th, 2013
Issue 50, Volume 17.

Dear Editor, I am a resident of Temecula California and am a student of Chaparral High School. I also ride BMX bikes and have no where to ride in town. My friends and I are constantly being kicked out of everywhere I try to ride. Since there is no bike parks in the area, I have tried to ride at the Ronald Reagan skate park and have not been allowed. According to the rules, bikes are not allowed in because they cause too much destruction. When in all actuality, bikes compared to scooters and skateboards are less destructive. The only component of a bike that causes harm to anything is the pegs which are about 4 inch long pipes of metal which are attached to the bike and are used for various tricks such as grinds. be harmful to whatever surface is being grinded but, like pegs, skateboards and scooters also have metal which is used for grinding. I bring this up because I have been told the reason bikes are not allowed is because they have pegs that destroy the skate park but, skateboard and scooters which are allowed, have the same exact metal grinding components bikes do. As a teenager and bike rider of Temecula I feel we should be allowed in the park at the same times skaters are. With us allowed in, the destructiveness of the public will surely be reduced. It does not make sense to let skaters and scooter riders grind up and have fun at the skatepark and deny bikers the same right when they all cause the same amount of harm. Thank you.
