Senior Paige Virgil scored seven goals and teammate Maddie Sanchez added four as Murrieta Valley cruised to an easy victory over rival and long time nemesis Santiago Tuesday night. Since 2008 the Sharks have played in five consecutive CIF-Southern Section Divisional Title games. They made it to the semifinals last year.

"Santiago is a great, aggressive attacking team," said Sanchez. "They are always a good opponent. Tonight’s win lets us know that there are things that we need to improve. We are going to work on that this week and prepare ourselves for Friday’s game."

The Sharks had their hands full trying to stop Virgil. Constantly double-teamed, the Nighthawks’ two-time Player of the Year still managed to dominate scoring in the match. "Paige is really good," said Nighthawk coach Brian Lynton. "They didn’t really have a very good matchup for her. So, whenever possible, she was double- and triple-teamed."

The Nighthawks also had two goals from Delayne Lynton and another from Kayla Fedler. Presley Svendsen and Abigail Goveia both played well in goal for Murrieta Valley.

Coach Lynton’s Nighthawks have been a powerful force in girls’ water polo since he took over as coach. Murrieta Valley has won CIF Divisional Championships in 2007, 2008, 2011, and in 2012. "I believe we can win it all this year," added Lynton.

The Nighthawks will host Los Osos Friday at 5pm. The Grizzlies are 1-4 and are coming off a tough 10-9 loss to Yorba Linda. Come out and catch some exciting Murrieta Valley Nighthawk girls’ water polo on their journey to the CIF Playoffs.
