The Chaparral girl’s water polo team beat Yucaipa 15-4 before an enthusiastic home crowd Tuesday. The Pumas fell behind 1-0 in the opening moments of the match but regrouped and pulled away with the victory midway through the second period.

Chaparral was led by seniors Bailey Sprague and Kaela Nichols who each scored six goals against the T-Birds. Fellow senior Abigail Johnson added two goals for the Pumas and junior Nicole Robinson scored the final Chaparral goal to seal the victory. Senior Goalie Abs Carpentier registered 10 saves for the Pumas.

Chaparral is coming off a second place finish in the 17th annual Redlands Winter Classic girls water polo tournament concluded Saturday. The Pumas beat Redlands 16-3, Hemet 15-3 and La Quinta 16-3 before losing to Southwestern league rival Great Oak 14-7 in the Championship round.

"I feel that we have a chance to compete for the league championship this year. We are strong enough to end up there" said Pumas coach Joshua Stone. "We have two returning starters and a great mix of younger girls with our seniors that have energized the program".

The Pumas will host the 10-2 Lancers from Bell Gardens High School Friday. Game time is 5pm. Come out and support the Pumas and catch some exciting girl’s water polo action.
