Issue 51, Volume 17.

LAKE PERRIS - A single adult bald eagle was spotted in Lake Perris during the first count of the eagles this winter, according to the U.S. Forest Service, San Bernardino National Forest.

Twenty-two volunteers at Lake Perris participated in Saturday morning's hour-long census. Similar adult and juvenile bald eagle counts went on in Lake Arrowhead, Silverwood Lake reservoir and Big Bear, all in San Bernardino County, said spokesman John Miller of the U.S. Forest Advertisement

No juvenile bald eagles, which can be distinguished by a brown head and tail, were seen in Lake Perris.

The winter months are the best time to see bald eagles in Southern California because they typically migrate here in late November and leave sometime in late March or early April, Miller said.

The remaining bald eagle counts for the winter are scheduled for Jan. 11, Feb. 8 and March 8, Miller said.
