The Vista Murrieta Girls Soccer team won its second tournament of the season Saturday as they beat cross-town rival Murrieta Valley 2-0 in the Championship game at the Hemet Girls Winter Tournament.

The Broncos were playing without five of their starters in the tournament. It was Freshman Ashley Johnson who stepped up for the Broncos as she provided all the scoring that Vista Murrieta would need. Johnson scored her first goal 12 minutes into the first half. She would nail the lid on the Bronco victory in the 74th minute with her second goal.

"Coming into the season, there were a couple of freshmen we decided to keep at varsity," said Bronco head coach Ryan Heise. One was Johnson. "To step up, that was big."

Vista Murrieta beat Lakeside 6-0 in the tournament opener and then shutout San Jacinto 4-0. Rancho Verde fell to the Broncos 2-1 in the semifinal match before Johnson led her team over the Nighthawks.

The Broncos are now 10-1-1. They started their season by winning the Beaumont Tournament Championship. Their only loss was at the hands of Paloma Valley.

Murrieta Valley is now 4-1-3. "Hats off to Vista Murrieta," said Nighthawk coach Shane Ebert. "They earned it for sure." The Nighthawks will get another shot at the Broncos on January 21st when league begins.
