A painting from the Cougar Vineyard and Winery was first reported missing on June 10.

The $2,000 painting was taken while the owners were out of town.

After several months of waiting for the painting to be returned, it still has not been recovered.

The artist of the painting, Christopher Mitz, has offered to replace the stolen artwork. This came about after a family member of the owners, who gave them the painting, ran into the artist at an art show in Virginia.

"He offered to paint a similar painting to the stolen one so that everyone would have a somewhat happier ending," said Jennifer Buffington, owner of the vineyard. Advertisement

He is replacing the painting at no cost, except for shipping. Which she said is a "very kind and wonderful offer."

The painting is "very unique and is very valuable," Buffington said back in June. She also said for this reason it would be hard for anyone to sell the painting. The painting was also a gift from her brother.

The painting features all the wines from the winery, one of the bottles also has the name of her brother’s vineyard on it.

"If the original artwork is found, then we’ll have two really fantastic paintings by Christopher," Buffington said.

Plans to complete the painting were set to begin after Christmas.
