LADY BEARS HOLIDAY CLASSIC: Chaparral Destroys Colton in Opener 85-5

The Pumas raised a lot of eyes in their convincing first round victory over Colton 85-5 in the Lady Bears Holliday Classic. Chaparral coasted all game long as they handed the Yellow Jackets their seventh straight loss. Colton did not score in the second haf.

Junior center Kali Jones led the Pumas with 29 points. Sara Hogman would end up with 11 points against Colton. It was a real team effort as Geneza Manlulu, Kelsie Saito and Tamra Owens all played significant roles.The Pumas are now 9-2 and looking to advance further in the tournament.

Murrieta Mesa lost a heart breaker to Summit in the earlier game. The Rams led for most of the game only to let victory slip away late in the final period.

Mikayla Greens led the Ram attack with 13 points. Jessica Brogdon scored 11 and Octavia Williams had ten. All three are juniors.

"Although we return three starters from last year's squad, we are very young with only two seniors on the team" said coach Megan Barbour. "We are athletic, which allows us to get up and down the floor quickly. We have multiple players that are scoring threats. They have worked harder this year than in any year past. We are only going to get better as we learn to trust each other and to play as one unit".

In other action with local teams, Heritage lost to Palm Springs 41-36.Ronisha Daniels led the Patriot attack with 13 points. Heritage is now 4-5 this season.
