Traffic Mishap Causes Blackout in Perris

PERRIS - A motorist crashed his car into an electric transformer in Perris and caused an overnight blackout that initially affected more than 2,400 homes and businesses, authorities said today.

Dispatchers received a 911 call at 8:12 p.m. Saturday and sent sheriff's deputies to the corner of Gallant Fox Street and Perris Boulevard, where the driver of a Toyota Camry lost control and crashed into the transformer, Riverside Advertisement

County sheriff's Sgt. Frank Lodes said.

The driver was heading south on Perris Boulevard when the crash happened near a shopping area with no injuries reported, Lodes said.

The outage affected a total of 2,465 homes and businesses but by 9:35 a.m. today 256 customers were left without power, Southern California Edison spokesman Paul Klein said.

A full restoration of power wasn't expected until 3 p.m. today, Klein said.
