The CIF Polls were released Monday and three Southwestern League girls' basketball teams were ranked in their divisions. Great Oak is ranked 11th in the CIF SS 1AA Division. Vista Murrieta is ranked two spots behind the Wolfpack at 13th. In the CIF 3AA Division Mesa Murrieta earned the ninth spot in the polls.

Great Oak is off to a 12-1 start as league play begins this week. Their only defeat of the season came at the hands of Bishop’s in a tough heart stopping 67-66 loss. The Wolfpack will travel to Murrieta Valley to play the Nighthawks tonight at 5:15pm. MVHS is 11-5 and are the defending CIF 2A Champions.

Vista Murrieta’s record this year is 11-4. The Broncos hustling, physical style of play earned them the Southwestern league title last season. They look even better this year. Vista Murrieta opens league play at Temecula Valley this evening. The Golden Bears are no pushovers. They are 11-5 and tough to beat at home and are on a five game winning streak.

Murrieta Mesa is the youngest program in the tough Southwestern league. Their 9th place ranking in the CIF SS 3AA Division is a direct result of improvements in the team and a 10-6 record this year.

The Rams will be facing a very tough and resilient Puma team this evening at Chaparral. The Pumas have put together an impressive 14-2 record and you need to wonder if some CIF pollsters simply forgeot about Chaparral. Game time is 5:15pm

In the matchup of the week, Great Oak and Vista Murrieta play each other on Thursday at Great Oak. Next week's marquis match-up sees Chaparral at Great oak on Tuesday, January 21st.
