MORENO VALLEY - A man who led authorities on a car chase from Riverside County to San Diego was hospitalized today with a bullet wound after an officer-involved shooting, authorities said.

The man first confronted Riverside County sheriff's deputies after they responded to a report of a dispute on Hemlock Avenue in Moreno Valley around 10 p.m. Wednesday, Riverside County sheriff's Deputy Armando Munoz said. An officer-involved shooting then occurred.

Munoz said the suspect fled, and authorities began chasing him. California Highway Patrol Sgt. Joseph Aboy said the 70-minute pursuit, which went southbound on the Escondido (215/15) Freeway, reached peak speeds of 80 mph and ended when the suspect drove into a gas station and convenience store parking lot on Murphy Canyon Road in San Diego, where he was taken into custody.

U-T San Diego reported the suspect had a gunshot wound to his arm and was hospitalized. His name was not immediately released.
