SAN JACINTO - A San Jacinto man suspected of seriously beating an acquaintance, leaving him bloodied and unconscious outside an apartment complex, was released from jail today.

Rene Mendez Barrera, 21, was arrested on suspicion of battery resulting in serious bodily injury, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies were called to the 800 block of Minor Street around 10 p.m. Sunday to investigate reports of an assault and found a man in his 20s on the ground, said sheriff's Sgt. Wally Clear.

Barrera was identified as the alleged assailant and taken into custody without incident at his nearby apartment, according to Clear.

The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment. A condition report was unavailable this afternoon.

Barrera was booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning but posted a $25,000 bond and was released hours later.
