Temecula Valley Hosts Seventh Annual “Battle for the Belt” Tourney

The seventh annual "Battle for the Belt" wrestling tournament was held this past weekend at Temecula Valley High School. San Diego wrestling powerhouse, Poway High School, scored 198.5 points, dethroning Clovis High, who has won the tournament the past four years. Temecula Valley won the tournament in 2008 and 2009. The tournament featured seventy-six schools competing this year and has become one of the premier wrestling events on the West Coast.

Joshy Cortez from Temecula Valley finished sixth in the 132-pound division. Elsinore’s Ruben Avila captured eighth in the 160-pound class.

43 - Paloma Valley, 30

54 - Temecula Valley "B", 19

57 - Chaparral, 18
