Vista Murrieta Makes 30 Free Throws

There were twelve lead changes and four ties in the first half as the Vista Murrieta Broncos (9-9, 0-3) and Murrieta Mesa Rams (10-9, 1-2) battled in the Coaches vs Cancer game. Vista Murrieta led 36-28 at halftime after a 22-12 second quarter which included nine made free throws by the Broncos.

Shondell Smith contributed six points in the Ramsí 17-12 third quarter to cut the lead to 50-45. The Broncos sank ten free throws down the stretch to hang on for the win.

Austin Beech hit three buckets and 11/13 free throws to lead the Broncosí scoring with 17. Spencer Benson added two baskets and 9/10 free throws to end the night with 13 points. Jacob Perry also had two baskets and made 6-of-9 free throws for ten points. Damon Dubots had thirteen points, including three-of-four free throws. In all, the team made 30-of 42 (71.2%) from the charity stripe compared to 10-of-19 for the Rams.

Beech also had 10 rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and four steals. Dubots also pulled down 10 boards. The Broncos outrebounded the Rams 46-37.

The Rams shot 42% from inside the arc and made six of 22 from beyond it; Bryan Phan accounted for three of the long-range buckets. He ended with 12 points. Davon Sanders scored ten of his 14 points in the first half. Smith led the Rams scoring with 17 points, ten in the second half.

The Broncos next face Chaparral (10-11, 0-4) at Chaparral. The Rams travel to Great Oak (14-6, 3-1).
