A valuable painting that was stolen from Cougar Vineyard and Winery last June 2013 has been replaced with a new painting by the original artist, Christopher Mitz.

The painting came in a couple of weeks ago, coincidently when owner Jennifer Buffington’s brother and sister-in-law were visiting – they were the ones who originally gave Buffington the painting.

Buffington’s sister-in-law ran into the artist late last year at an art show in Virginia.

"[Mitz] offered to paint a similar painting to the stolen one so that everyone would have a somewhat happier ending," Advertisement

Buffington said in a previous interview.

On Monday, Jan. 27, Buffington stated that the recreation of the painting was remarkable.

"Everyone thinks we got the original back," she said.

The new painting is safe behind the bar with a camera on it 24 hours a day. There is still a $500 reward for the return of the original stolen painting.

"If the original artwork is found, then we’ll have two really fantastic paintings by Christopher," Buffington said.

Anyone with information regarding the stolen painting is asked to contact the winery at (951) 491-0825.
