MURRIETA - A Murrieta man was recovering today from injuries he suffered when struck by a motorist, in what the victim described as a deliberate assault.

The hit-and-run happened about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5 on Tarragona Drive, near Almansa Court, according to Murrieta police.

The victim, whose identity was not disclosed, told police he was walking his two dogs, going westbound on Tarragona, when a white sedan approached from behind.

According to the pedestrian, the vehicle slowed as it passed him, then the driver proceeded to Almansa, where he made an abrupt U-turn.

"The driver of the sedan drove directly toward the victim, Advertisement

drove up the curb and onto the sidewalk," said Murrieta police Sgt. Phil Gomez. "The vehicle struck the victim on his left side and sped away toward Jacante Drive."

The man called 911, and police arrived moments later but did not locate the vehicle.

According to Gomez, the victim was treated at the scene by paramedics but had his wife drive him to the hospital for treatment of non-life- threatening injuries. The dogs weren't hurt.

The sedan resembled a 2000 model BMW, but investigators weren't certain of the exact make, Gomez said.

Anyone with information was urged to call Gomez at (951) 461-6356.
