Murrieta Valley High School Athletic Director Darin Mott announced today that Vinny Fazio has submitted his resignation as the head varsity football coach at the school. Fazio was hired as head coach in June, 2013 when Greg Ireland stepped down for heath reasons.

Fazio came to MVHS from Eisenhower High where he rebuilt the Eagles football program in 2012, captured the league championship and made the CIS SS playoffs. His 2013 Nighthawks finished the season 6-4 and failed to make the playoffs for the first time in six seasons.

Principal Eric Mooney said, "I have a lot of respect for Vinny’s knowledge of the game, his work ethic and how he coached the team and I appreciate what he did for the program. Unfortunately, we were unable to come to an agreement regarding our vision for the Murrieta Valley High School Athletic Program and Coach Fazio’s philosophy regarding off-season workouts and the impact on multi-sport athletes."

Fazio will remain at Murrieta Valley and continue to teach Earth Science.

Assistant coach George Wilson has accepted the position of interim head coach to provide leadership to the Nighthawk football program during the off-season. Wilson was hired as assistant coach for the Nighthawks this year. He teaches History at the school.

Prior to coming to Murrieta Valley, Wilson was the defensive coordinator at Rancho Verde High School and the wide receivers coach, special teams coordinator and junior varsity head coach at Paloma Valley High School.
