The Bulldogs came into the Wolf’s Den Friday night with expectations of upsetting the Wolfpack and advancing to round two of the CIF SS Division 1AA Boys Basketball tournament. The Golden League Basketball Champs ran into a tough, determined Wolfpack that simply dominated from the opening tip off.

Great Oak dominated the opening period as they scored 18 points and the defense shut down and held the Bulldogs to six points. Sophomore Jacob Tryon played his best game of the season as he contained Highland center Devin Burleson.

"We played with a lot of energy" said Tryon. "In the CIF Playoffs every game counts. Every time we take the court we have everything to gain and everything to loose. We played great team defense and the entire team helped me double cover Burleson in different situations".

The Bulldogs settled down in the second period and even came within five points of the lead midway through the third. The Wolfpack rallied behind Latrelle Franklin’s 11 point effort and a sensational, no, impossible 75 foot 3-pointer to beat the buzzer as time ran out in the third period. Franklin scored three key 3-pointers the period.

"Latrelle started off the game with a couple of great plays and really that really sparked our whole team offense" said Tryon. "Especially in the third period with those clutch shots".

The Wolfpack would out gun the Bulldogs 20-11 in the final period to win their opening CCIF Playoff game 70-50. Franklin led Great Oak with 21 points. Tryon scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half. He also had 15 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. Jeremy Smith dropped in 12 points and Torin Webb 11.

The Wolfpack will travel to La Verne to face #4-seed Damien on Tuesday. The Spartans are ranked 59th in the state and are coming off a big 71-33 shellacking of Diamond Bar last night. Game time is 7 pm.
