Lakeside Girls Defeat Tustin 58-51 to Advance to Final Four

Lady Lancers Face Corona Del Mar in Semis of CIF-SS Div 3AA

In CIF SS Division 3AA action, Lakeside was on the road and erupted for 22 points in the first period to keep the pressure on Tustin in Wednesday’s CIF Quarterfinal playoff match. The Tillers battled back and outscored the Lancers 15-8 in the second and Lakeside took a 30-24 into the locker room at the half.

Tustin refused to quit and outscored the Lancers 19-18 in the second half but it was not enough. Lakeside withstood the Tiller charge and will advance to the Semifinals this weekend.

Senior Kianna Williams led the Lakeside offensive attack with 24 points. Sophomore Marisa Williams scored 13 points and junior Maia Crawley added eight. Senior Megan Wood grabbed nine rebounds for the Lancers and scored seven points. Tustin’s Ashley Earles scored 18 points and Chynna Autele 17 for the Tillers.

Lakeside (22-6, 10-0) is the #2 seed and will host 6'3" Natalia Bruening, 6'2" Krista Anderson and the #6 Corona del Mar Sea Kings (21-8, 6-4) this Saturday at 7 pm in the CIF SS Division 3AA Semifinal match. Corona del Mar (CdM) was behind 23-7 at halftime and by as much as 18 in the third quarter. They outscored #3 San Juan Hills 31-14 to come away with a one point victory, 38-37. Guard Kelly Tam hit a three and a layup to win the game. CdM won the Division 3-A title in 1982-3.
