The Broncos' tough physical defense surfaced again last night as Vista Murrieta survived a slow start to overcome the Los Alamitos Griffins 48-36 in their CIF Southern Section Division 1AA playoff game. The Broncos will advance to the Quarterfinals Saturday.

Vista Murrieta has had propensity to start slow this season and last night was no exception. The Broncos scored only four points in the first period and 12 in the second. They trailed 19-16 at the end of the first half.

The Broncos were led by Sophomores Jaelyn Brown and Brittney Reed. Brown had 16 points, 12 rebounds and Reed added 15 points and led the Brocos with 15 rebounds. Junior Alexis Marshall scored nine points against the Griffins while Yuendi Guridi scored six and had four assists.

The Broncos took control in the second half as they outscored Los Alamitos 18-10 in the third period and slammed the door shut in the fourth as they only allowed seven points in the final period to seize the victory 48-36.

#2 Vista Murrieta (23-6, 9-1) will be home this Saturday to play host to #7 Brea Olinda. The Wildcats are 19-7 and Champs of the Century League and are coming off a 48-34 win over Roosevelt. Winner gets Centennial or Millikan in the semifinals. Game time is 7pm.
