PERRIS - A 52-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car today as she walked down the middle of a street just west of Perris.

Margaret Gasaway of Perris died around 3:10 a.m. when she was hit while walking east on Cajalco Road, just past Brown Street, in an unincorporated community known as Mead Valley.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Gasaway was in the center of the eastbound lane at the time, for reasons not immediately clear.

"The pedestrian was wearing dark Advertisement

clothing and no reflective material," said CHP Officer Travis Monks.

He said a 57-year-old Riverside man at the wheel of a 1999 Honda Accord approached the victim from behind at about 45 mph.

"Due to the position of the pedestrian within the roadway, the front end of the Honda struck her," Monks said.

The motorist stopped and called 911. Gasaway was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics minutes later, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The CHP's investigation was continuing, Monks said.

We never know when the lord will take us home or how, but now, Margaret you are home with Myra and I will never forget you both. I have many memories of times spent together and I'm blessed to have those memories. You will be missed by friends, family and others who knew you well. My heart and prayers go out to Margaret and Myra's mother for her loss that came just way too soon. My condolences to the whole family and Margaret's children.
