Temecula Valley Splits Doubleheader with Hemet

It might be spring break for their classmates but the Murrieta Mesa girls softball team made the trek up to Norco to play a doubleheader against the Cougars Monday afternoon. Norco is a perennial Southern California softball powerhouse and ranked 13th in the state and in the top-50 teams in the nation.

The Rams ran into the Cougar juggernaut and lost the first game 11-0 in five innings. Sophomore pitcher Kerissa Viramontes got the win for the Cougars and freshman Victoria Carr got the loss for Mesa. Senior Ashley Goodwin went 2-for-2, junior Kwynn Warner 3-for-3 and senior Amanda Sandoval went 2-for-3 with a home run and double for Norco.

Norco won the second game 11-1 as freshman Taylor Dockins picked up the victory. Junior Alexis Watts was the loser for the Rams. She also went 2-for-2 against Norco in game 2. Goodwin was 2-for-3 and Warner 2-for-3 for the Cougars.

The Rams fall to 4-8-1 while Norco improves to 8-3.

The Golden Bears split their doubleheader with Hemet. Temecula Valley won the opening game 15-11 with freshman pitcher Haylie Mertzel picking up the win for TVHS. Senior Ivy Campbell was the loser for Hemet.

In the second game Temecula Valley lost 18-8 as Hemet won in 5-innings. Junior Mercedes Graciano was the loser for the Bears while sophomore Brianna Arroyo was the winner.

Temecula Valley is now 4-7 and Hemet improves to 10-6.
