The ball was flying in the favor of the Storm in Adelanto as they scored nine unanswered runs in the fifth inning to defeat the High Desert Mavericks 11-9 in game two-of-three of the series.

The game went scoreless through two until the bats woke up beginning in the top of the third when Hunter Renfroe hit his second consecutive single of the night, scoring Stephen Carmon from second base to give the Storm an early lead.

Carmon started the onslaught of hits in the fifth with a lead off solo homerun to right center field.

Carmon hit just one home run all last season in Class-A Fort Wayne. In this short-season he is 5-for-10 in just three games, with a home run, three runs and a .500 average.

The inning continued with back-to-back singles by Renfroe and Casey McElroy to score Alberth Martinez, two passed balls to advance and score McElroy, a two-on two-out single by Jeremy Rodriguez that scored two and a three-run home run back at the top of the order off the bat of Martinez to give the Storm a 10-0 lead.

The Mavericks ended the shutout in the seventh with a pair of triples by Patrick Kivlehan and Tim Lopes to tack four runs to the board for the home team.

Kivlehan cut the lead again in the eighth with a solo homerun off of Storm righty Bryce Morrow.

Luis Domoromo scored an insurance run in the top of the ninth after hitting a triple into left field.

The Mavs tried to make it a game but came up short after scoring a run after a fielding error, a throwing error and a wild pitch. Travis Witherspoon followed it up with a two-run blast over the center field wall and teammate D.J. Peterson hit a two-out triple to cut the Storm lead to just two runs.

Storm reliever Trevor Gott entered the game to record the final out to save the Storm victory.

Storm starter Joe Ross went six innings and allowed only three hits, no runs and recorded four strikeouts in his second start with Lake Elsinore.

Jochi Ogando went four innings for High Desert suffering seven hits, allowing five runs and three errors in his start.

The Storm (3-3) will finish the road series tomorrow in Adelanto tomorrow with RHP Zach Eflin taking the mound versus RHP Matt Anderson for the 7:05 start before returning for the Storm home opener on Thursday.
