After losing in extra innings last night, the Storm offense fizzled against the Lancaster JetHawks in game two of Opening Weekend on Friday. Storm hitters managed a mere four hits en route to a 5-1 loss.

For the second straight night the JetHawks scored in the first inning. Anthony Kemp led off the game with a walk and was promptly brought home by a Teoscar Hernandez triple. Hernandez would score on a Carlos Correa sacrifice fly to give the ‘Hawks a two-run lead.

Lancaster’s Vince Velasquez was lights out in his second start of the season. The Pomona (CA) native held the Storm hitless through the first three innings and allowed just one man to reach base in five innings of work.

After a shaky first, Storm righty Ruben Mejia settled down in the subsequent innings. The 22-year old gave up just two hits and struck out four in his first four frames. But despite Mejia’s efforts in the previous innings, the wheels came off in the fifth. Justin Gominsky reached on a two-out single and Kemp continued his hot start to the season with a base hit of his own.

Another Hernandez triple plated Gominsky and Kemp to give the Lancaster centerfielder three RBIs on the night. After Ben Paullus replaced Mejia, Carlos Correa knocked an RBI single to put the JetHawks up 5-0.

The lone Storm score came in the bottom of the eighth. Corey Adamson drilled a triple down the line in right and would score easily on a John Nester single to avoid the shutout.

With the loss, the Storm fall to 3-6 on the season while the JetHawks (7-2) extend their winning streak to six games. Bryan Rodriguez gets the ball for the Storm tomorrow and will face off against Lance McCullers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05pm.
