Lake Elsinore, CA – Hunter Renfroe propelled the Storm to victory for a second consecutive night, blasting a three-run home run off the right field video board to provide all the runs the Storm would need in a 3-1 win over the Modesto Nuts Saturday night.

Before Renfroe’s long ball, Storm starter Zach Eflin tossed a pair of scoreless innings to begin his first home start of the season. The 19 year old pitched out of a two on, no out situation in the first and allowed just one earned run while giving up eight hits through five and two-thirds innings of work.

The Storm would take the lead for good in the third. John Nester lined a one out single to left, and Alberth Martinez followed with a walk. A groundout put both runners in scoring position, but Renfroe did the heavy lifting himself. The Nashville native crushed his fifth home run of the season to the opposite field and gave the Storm a 3-0 lead.

Eflin continued to cruise through four, but the Nuts managed to plate a run in the fifth. Despite the score, the right hander pitched out of trouble to limit the damage and maintain the Storm advantage.

Five subsequent pitchers would combine to hold the Nuts scoreless for the rest of the game. Trevor Gott recorded his fifth save of the season, a four-out effort that sealed the series victory and pushed the Storm over .500 for the first time in 2014.

Renfroe finished the week with nine hits, three home runs and 12 RBIs in seven games to lead the storm to a 6-1 record in that span.

After an off day tomorrow, the Storm (9-8) will travel north to take on the Stockton Ports (7-10) in a four-game series. Colin Rea (1-0) gets the ball for Lake Elsinore while the Stockton starter has yet to be announced. First pitch is slated for 7:05pm.
