One Inning the Difference in Storm Loss

One inning was the difference Wednesday night as the Lancaster JetHawks put up three runs in the second en route to a 3-1 defeat of the Storm in game three of a four-game series.

The ‘Hawks did all of their damage against Storm starter Colin Rea (L, 3-1). The Cascade, Iowa native was tagged for five hits in the frame and allowed three earned runs.

Despite his struggles in the second, Rea otherwise performed admirably. He held Lancaster hitless in his additional four innings of work, striking out three in that span.

The Storm responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the second inning. Luis Tejada lined a two-out single to right and B.J. Guinn found the gap for an RBI double, his third two-bagger of the season.

Chris Nunn and Ben Paullus combined to allow just two hits over four innings after Rea was removed prior to the sixth, but the Storm offense couldn’t match the bullpen’s efforts and Lake Elsinore dropped its second straight game to fall to 20-14. The Storm are now tied with Lancaster at the top of the South Division.

The Storm have struggled against the ‘Hawks at home this season, winning just two of seven games at The Diamond. Despite that mark, the Storm are 17-7 in their last 24 games.

Casey Kelly returns to the Storm tonight for his second rehab start with the team, and will oppose Mike Hauschild (2-1, 4.55 ERA) in the final game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
