Murrieta Valley overcame a huge challenge on the way to the Southwestern league title Tuesday when they faced rival Chaparral in the battle for first place. The Nighthawks battled a tough, determined Puma team at home and came out on top Tuesday afternoon. They remain undefeated and in first place in the tough Southwestern league.

Nighthawk senior Lacey Alderman scattered five hits over seven innings for the win. She gave up the only Chaparral run in the very first inning but bore down and proceeded to shut down the Puma offense.

The Nighthawks would also score in the first inning and the game remained tied until the fourth. Chaparral’s starting pitcher Karissa Frazier considered one of the best flame throwers and who leads the league in victories was the loser.

Murrieta Valley had six hits against Frazier. Autumn Bishop was 2-for 4 with a double and knocked in the first Nighthawk run. Autumn’s twin sister Amber singled in Danielle Gibson for the winning run in the fourth. Gibson also had two hits in the game for the Nighthawks.

It was a big victory for Murrieta Valley as the Nighthawks improve to a perfect 7-0 and are two games ahead of second place Chaparral with three left to play. The Nighthawks and Pumas will face off again for another critical game this Thursday at 3:30pm. The game will be played at Chaparral.
