The Southwestern Baseball season heads into its final week of play and the scramble for CIF Playoff Spots intensifies. Vista Murrieta powered past Murrieta Mesa 5-1 as they stay in the hunt for the league Championship. The Broncos are tied for second with Temecula Valley. They stay a game behind league leading Great oak with two games left to play.

The Rams scored their only run in the first inning against Vista Murrieta starter Brandon Nelson. The junior pitched three innings, giving up a run on three hits and picked up the victory for the Broncos.

Vista Murrieta struck back with three runs in their half of the first and never looked back. The Broncos scored a run in the fourth and another in the fifth to cruise to a 5-1 victory.

Hunter Tidwell tripled, went 3-for-3, scored and drove in a run for the Broncos. JT McLellan, Ryan Lillie, Alex Jaques and Angel Ortiz all drove in a run in the game.

Murrieta Mesa’s Andy Thomas went 3-for-3 at the plate against Vista Murrieta pitching. The Rams Junior Christian Steigele was stuck with the loss.

The Broncos last two games of the regular season will be against Chaparral next week. The Pumas are in fifth place in the Southwestern league and are coming off a 6-4 upset victory over Murrieta Valley last Thursday. Game one will be at Vista Murrieta Tuesday at 3:30pm.
