Shifting winds pushed smoke from the nine Southland fires into the inner valley regions affecting air quality to the point where the City of Temecula closed all its fields to organized sports activities, Temecula Youth Baseball officially cancelled all games today, local school districts curtailed outdoor sports activities, including the first-ever City Championship in Powder Puff Football.

The Sugar Bowl features girls Powder Puff Football teams from all three Temecula public schools playing each other in one afternoon/evening of flag football. This year, the Mayor of Temecula, Mary Ann Edwards, is presenting the first Mayor's Cup, a perpetual trophy awarded to the City Champion. The award is sponsored by Valley News Sports.

The Sugar Bowl, scheduled for Friday, May 16, is being rescheduled due to air quality conditions. Check back to this site or the Valley News Facebook and Twitter accounts for updated information on the new playing date and times.
