Vista Murrieta’s fighting spirit was put to the test by Orange Lutheran Thursday afternoon as the Broncos came back twice in the face of certain defeat to beat the Lancers 10-7 on a dramatic eighth inning blast by game MVP Megan Holmes. Vista Murrieta advances to Round three of the Ford CIF SS Division 1 Playoffs.

The Broncos took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Sydney Romero scored on a single by Kylie Keller Vista Murrieta had the bases loaded but Lancer pitcher Maddy Dwyler worked her way out of the jam.

Orange Lutheran took advantage of several Bronco miscues and errors to score twice in the third. The Lancers got two more in the fifth to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Vista Murrieta rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to retake the lead, but it was shot lived. The Lancers went ahead again in the sixth with three huge runs and took a 1 run lead into the seventh inning.

The Broncos Sydney Romero led off the seventh with a solo home run to tie it all up and sent the game into extra innings. Bronco Yvonne Siordia got her fourth hit of the game as she doubled in the gap to lead off the eighth. Sara Lillie walked which brought Megan Holmes to the plate. Holmes hit the third pitch from Dwyler out of the park and the Vista Murrieta bench exploded with emotion as the Broncos took the game 10-7.

It was Selina Ta’amlio’s third victory of the playoffs. Ta’amlio has been asked to pitch every game since the Bronco’s number two pitcher went on the disabled list several weeks ago. "Lina: as her teammates call her responded by pitching six consecutive shutouts. She ran into trouble Thursday but her teammates came through in style.

Ta’amlio and the Broncos will face Cypress in the tournament quarterfinals on Saturday. The Centurions finished second in the Empire league and are 21-8 overall. They beat West Ranch 5-1in today’s round two playoff game.
