Temecula Valley Elks #2801 sponsors first place Americanism essay contest winner at the State Level

TEMECULA – Anna Holman, a 7th grade student from Murrieta, was recently recognized at the California Hawaii Elks convention held in Palm Springs. Anna entered her essay in the contest sponsored by the Americanism Committee of the Temecula Valley

Elks.

The theme of the essay was "What Does Veterans Day Mean to Me?" and essays were to be no longer than 250 words. Her essay was selected by the Temecula Valley Elks as one of the top three in her division for 7th and 8th grade students.

The winning essays were then sent Advertisement

to the District Level for further judging and those top essays were sent on to the state level of judging.

Anna’s essay was awarded first place at the State Level. She and her family were then invited to attend the morning session of the convention. Anna and her mother arrived in Palm Springs and both eagerly attended the session. They were introduced to the State Americanism Chairperson Jerry Landreth-Brusato and State President Richard McDonald. Anna then read her winning essay to the Elk members assembled and received a check and a special

citation.
