I-15 crash leaves multiple injured

At approx 9:55 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014, all southbound lanes of the I-15 were blocked at the 79 south exit due to a four car, multiple injury crash.

The California Highway Patrol originally reported that as many as five vehicles were involved, including a major amount of the damage belonging to a Prius, white SUV, and a Dodge Ram. The drivers all collided blocking several lanes of traffic.

Freeway Traffic was diverted through Old Town, leaving local traffic at a stand-still through the area. CHP issued a SIG alert as traffic backed up to Winchester Road. Lanes on I-15 were closed for almost an hour as CHP officers, CalFire, Advertisement

and American Medical Response personnel worked to clear the damage and transfer the injured to local hospitals, according to a CHP report.

According to CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department public information officer, Melody Hendrickson, two people were trapped in their vehicle, and were extricated shortly before 10:30 a.m.

"Three patients had been transported to an area hospital via ground ambulance with moderate injuries." Hendrickson said.

CalFire had to use the jaws of life in a to free the two injured motorists from their vehicle, and according to social media sites, there were reports that a life flight helicopter was on scene.

I just got on the 15 at Rancho California and hadn't seen the backup. 2 hours later I was finally able to exit at CA-79
