Regular gasoline price at highest amount for Independence Day since 2008

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Inland Empire was at its highest amount for Independence Day since 2008, $4.143, today.

A run of eight increases in nine days ended today when the average price in Riverside and San Bernardino counties was unchanged. It rose 4.5 cents over the previous nine days, including four-tenths of a cent on Thursday according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 2.1 cents more than one week ago, 2.7 cents higher one month ago and 13 cents above what it was one year ago.

"Los Angeles wholesale gasoline prices have backed down after a two-week rise, but are still well above levels that cause our price averages to stay above $4," said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The average price has been above $4 since March 24.
