A predawn equipment failure today blacked out more than 2,100 homes and businesses in south Hemet.

The outage was reported at 4:50 a.m. on Meridian Street. Faulty underground equipment was blamed for the loss of supply to 2,184 Southern California Edison accounts, SCE spokeswoman Lauren Bartlett said.

Thirty-five homes near Bordeaux Lane in Hemet were without power as of 6:28 a.m. Full restoration of power was estimated for no later than 7:30 p.m., Bartlett said.
