Members of the Menifee Police Department arrested a 46-year-old Menifee man who was driving two young children -- a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old -- in his SUV for drunken driving Thursday after he overturned the vehicle, a Sheriff's official reported.

David Carlo Engleton of Menifee was driving his Ford Explorer in the area of Briggs Road and Gardner Lane shortly before 3:30 p.m. when he attempted to maneuver a curve on the road. Engleton was unable to maneuver the curve and his Explorer lost traction and flipped over, Sheriff's Sgt. Ralph Rico said.

Rico said that when deputies arrived, they determined an adult passenger of the SUV was able to exit it before fleeing on foot.

Medical personnel examined the two children passengers and determined that they did not sustain any injuries in the vehicle rollover, Rico said.

Engleton was arrested for driving while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and driving on suspended driver's license. He was also arrested for driving a vehicle while on probation and had two prior convictions of driving under the influence, according to Rico.

Engleton was booked at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta.

Anyone who may have additional information about this vehicle collision is encouraged to call Deputy Josh Cail from the Menifee Traffic Team at (951)-210-1068.

Seriously, if there is a mother of these two children anywhere in the picture, I consider her an accomplice and guilty of endangerment...knowing this man's history, and letting her two children ride in a vehicle with him.....shame on you....ditch the man and pay attention to raising your children safely.
