Pechanga Resort and Casino is not only a fine gaming establishment, it is also a renowned boxing venue, showcasing world class boxing. On August 22 the casino along with ESPN and Goosen promotions once again brought Friday Night Fights to Temecula.

In the main event former world champion Austin ,"No Doubt" Trout, who had been winless in the nearly two years since his surprising upset over Miguel Cotto in 2012, defeated Australia’s Daniel Dawson, in a bout where the former WBA light middleweight champion survived two early knockdowns in order to grind out a hard fought ten-round unanimous decision victory.

Friday Night Fights not only featured top boxers, it also showcased developing fighters and last Friday night's event gave an opportunity to some Inland Empire boxers to gain national exposure and to fight close to home as well.

Fernando Fuentes from Hemet lost an exciting, hard fought bout versus Jaun Funez, in what some considered a street fight between the young featherweight fighters. Fuentes (4-3) scored more early on however Funez (6-0-1, 2 KOs) landed the harder and more accurate punches in the last two rounds. The last round was the busiest of the bout as they fought until the final bell. Advertisement

A draw would have been fair; however one judge scored the contest at 38-38 but was overruled as two judges tallied their scorecards at 39-37 each for Funez giving him an unpopular majority decision.

Temecula’s John Worthy (3-7, 1 KO) was over matched and was easily defeated by east coast native Kyrone Davis' in a middle weight fight. Davis (4-0, 2 KOs) scored almost at will, while Worthy’s best trait was that he could stay upright for all four rounds. Scores were 40-36 in a lopsided unanimous decision over four rounds.

Joshua Conley (9-0-1, 6 Kos) from San Bernardino was impressive in his contest win by decision over Antonio Urista (5-1, 2 KOs) over six rounds in the junior middleweight division. The bigger Conley, who is trained by Henry Ramirez (the coach of heavyweight contender Chris Arreola), scored the harder and more precise punches and took the decision with scores of 58-56 and 59-55 twice.

Friday Night Fight’s will return to Pechanga in 2015, while the next big fighting event that will take place in the grand ball room will be the Battle of the Bellator MMA 127 in October of this year. Check out www.Pechanga.com for more event details.
