The Hawks BU12 Academy team won the very prestigious West Coast Futbol Classic over the weekend of August 16-17. The tournament is considered one of the top in the country, and for the Hawks who were playing in the top flight; they were nothing short of amazing in their quest for gold.

Led by Coach by Ryan Halliday, the BU12 team went undefeated in five games beating the San Diego Surf Academy, El Segundo Sand and Surf, the FC Golden State, Laguna United and in the finals they beat the Nomads 4-3 in a hard fought game.

The Hawks team has several players who started out in the Hawks Junior Hawk program when they were six-years-old and have helped the team progress to one of the top teams in the country. They will be competing in Flight 1 in the SCDSL League after they finish their preseason.

The goal for Coach Halliday, he says, "Will be to continue each individual players development while advancing the team forward in the toughest gaming bracket in the nation."

Last weekend in Carlsbad, the Hawks GU10 Academy team also showcased their talents as they took the Coastal Classic Championship cruising on Saturday to easy 3-1 and 4-1 wins, while working on their shape on defense and possession on offense.

The girls created several more scoring chances and even hit four crossbars throughout the tournament. On Sunday, they came back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to go ahead 3-2, but gave away an unlucky own goal to tie 3-3 against a very athletic Carlsbad United team. In the final, those two teams met again and drew 0-0. The Hawks won the PK shootout by making their first 4 shots, while goalie Kaitlyn Restrepo stopped 3 of 4. The team will begin play in Flight 2 of the SCDSL in September.
