UPDATE: Firefighters contain 23-acre brush fire in Temecula Valley Wine Country

A 23-acre brush fire was burning in a rural area of Temecula Valley Wine Country on Tuesday, Oct. 10, and firefighters were working to contain it. Kim Harris photo.

After a several hour fight, firefighters contained a 23-acre brush fire in Temecula Valley Wine Country on Tuesday, Oct. 10, officials said.

The fire, dubbed the Portola fire, was reported shortly before 3 p.m. in the 37200 block of De Portola Road east of Pauba Road, wrote spokeswoman Jody Hagemann in a news release.

It was burning in the hills directly across from Robert Renzoni Vineyards and Winery.

Initially the fire was reported as being between 5-10 acres in heavy brush, said April Newman, another spokeswoman.
