Detectives trying to determine why Riverside man held teacher hostage at elementary school

Detectives will try today to determine why the father of a first-grade student at a Riverside elementary school came onto the campus and held a teacher hostage in a classroom for nearly seven hours before he was shot to death by the Riverside Police Department SWAT Team.

The teacher taken hostage teaches first grade and is in her 70s. She was taken to a hospital with unspecified minor injuries after she was rescued and was in good condition Tuesday night, police said.
