K9 teams from law enforcement agencies throughout California will be matching skills and giving the public a glimpse into police techniques Saturday during the Riverside Sheriffs Association's 22nd annual K9 Team Competition.

More than 50 canines and their handlers are slated to take part in the event, beginning at 8 a.m. in the George Ingalls Equestrian Center on Crestview Drive.

According to sheriff's Sgt. Adam Vallejo, the dogs and their partners will be running obstacle courses, demonstrating obedience responsiveness, conducting mock searches and exhibiting take-down methods.

A public safety expo will coincide with the contest, featuring displays by the sheriff's Hazardous Devices Team, the Underwater Search & Recovery Team, the Special Enforcement Bureau and other units.

"We are encouraging the public to attend with their families and enjoy a fun and informative day, witnessing law enforcement canine teams in action,'' Vallejo said.

An awards ceremony will follow the competition.

Admission to the event is free.
